Hmm! A shopping mission! My favourite!!!

What kinds of things are we looking for?

If it's electricals or duvet covers - you can't go wrong in Carrefour.

If it's anything else like small furnishings - have a peep here, they have branches in Cairo:

The shop in Alex is like an Aladdins cave with everything from Power tools, curtain rails, DIY shelf packs, kitchen stuff, outdoor stuff, lamps, clocks and all sorts of other stuff - I seem to remember nests of tables and linen chests - but got dragged out before I fainted from excitement and haven't dared go back in there again for a while.
Woo Hoo!!!!! I've got a signature!

ooooh! A HUGE shopping mission! Wear comfy shoes!

I'd start off in Carrefour for a look see - their kitchen section is excellent, the bathroom section has everything a bathroom could possibly need - like shower curtains and soap holders. They have a few lamps and clocks and things but not many.
But the best thing is all the prices are in English - and are some of the best prices to be found - especially on electricals.

Dary really is excellent though - really competitive prices considering a lot of the stuff is imported. I thought I was in seventh heaven in the tools aisle - think the assistant thought I'd gone nutty the way I was fondling the tool boxes!

This sounds like heaven.

Is carrefour good for washer's, cookers, and small fridges or would i be best getting these from a local shop?

I was going to go on Sunday, i even have a free lift from an Egyptian friend, however HL suggested most the shops will be closed due to the feast :(
