Suicide by Egyptian as stocks crash
CAIRO: An Egyptian man committed suicide yesterday after losing his savings which he had invested in the plummeting stock market, a security official said.
The 56-year-old man was found hanging by a rope in his Cairo home by his children, the official said.
He had saved money working in Kuwait before returning to Egypt and investing in Egyptian stocks, whose key values have more than halved in recent months amid the global financial crisis.
His children reported he had threatened to kill himself because of his financial troubles, the official said.
The World Health Organisation warned last week that the global economic crisis is likely to cause an upsurge in suicides and mental illness as people struggle to cope with losing their homes or livelihoods. - AFP

Silly thing is unless you need to actually sell at this point (for whatever reason) there is no need to panic, they will recover .............eventually

He must have been so distraught, it's very rare to hear of an Egyptian committing suicide.

Oh I dont know - remember the sad story of the actress soad hosni who jumped tp her death in london? And cant remember his name - but last year the son in law of president nasser (had shares in chelsea FC and other shady dealings) and I know of a few women also -and of course who could forget Cleopatra?

Ok, but thats a handful over how long? Compared to European countries that's not many.
