Etisalat Wireless Connection

Post by Hurghada Lady »

I have just changed my wireless DSL, I was sick to death of the connection coming and going and the company not giving a damn. I would constantly phone Oznet and they would say they were busy and come later but of course they didn't come. So enough is enough! :x

I have bought Etisalat wireless connection, it has given me coverage all over the villa, it is 6meg (or whatever you call it), the connection does not keep failing and I have plugged my PS3 into the back with space for another 3 connections. I have to say I am really impressed with it, the cost was 1650le for the router and 150le per month no telephone line needed and worked immediately.

Perfect for you Semsema or have you sorted yours now? ;)

Interesting that it is available in Hurghada. I tried to get it here in Luxor after several others had got it and said it was good. The local agent told me they had stopped doing it and to go next door to the Vodafone shop who could help....and they did. Just got the USB modem though as we now have our wireless DSL back up and working..sort of . It is total crap in the evenings so I am back on the Vodafone modem tonight :x
It only gives us a good dialup speed in our ground floor flat but we do get a good fast connection on the roof so have to trog up there if we need something fast.

Bought it this week BBLUX, think they were telling you porkies! The speed on it is brilliant upstairs downstairs and in the garden, I am well impressed and cutting me off at all so far.

They are about to bring out a higher speed soon also which they said we can have on this modem.

It depends on how far you are from the phone mast...jus the same as distance from Central on phone lin DSL. Being on the roof gives a better line of sight to our nearest phone mast about 3Km away.
I have hung ours out the top of a window to get it outside the steel and concrete structure.

Actually mine has just jumped to 3G mode so it is quite fast tonight. Must get some more of those palm trees outside the apartment removed so I get a better signal. :)

Our Etisalat shop is an agent and apparantly they have downgraded to just doing basic phone stuff now :x

Keefy is coming here in the next couple of weeks, I wonder if we got you the modem you would be allowed to pay the monthly bills of 150le in your local shop?

I have some concerns over Etisalat coverage here. I cannot actually find their network here on the West Bank. Do they operate under a different network name??

They used to have a coverage map on their website. In one of my fits of pique with Vodafone - I checked out Etisalat - but I wasn't impressed with their coverage - it seemd to be OK in the main areas but complete pants in out of the way areas - and I'm the kind of gal that likes to think that if I'm stuck on the highway outside Alex - that I will be able to call my night in shining armour.

This was a while back now and their coverage over Egypt may have improved since then.

No not sorted out yet Hurghada Lady. Thanks for that. Will check it out. Went into Vodaphone yesterday but the guy said that the person who spoke English wouldn't be in until later. Couldn't be bothered driving from Magawish into town again. Must make the effort though.

Thanks for that.

Just an update.

One of the guys very kindly lent me his Vodaphone USB stick last night. Could not get a signal inside the apartment. It was okay if I went outside, but as I want internet - especially this coming week - to check my work, I am not prepared to sit outside.

Back to the drawing board.

You can connect the USB stick modem by an extension USB cable (maxiumum 4.5 metres long) We do this with ours....hang it out the window and sit inside browsing away. :)

I have just got the wireless Vodafone unit and that can be put anywhere you have a power socket to run it and no cables to the laptop. It is too dark to go clambering up to the roof now but I am going to see if I can get it to work from up there down to our flat tomorrow. I can pick up our existing DSL wireless router which is in the flat if I take my laptop to the roof but the signal strength is very low. Might work better the other way round though. If that works we will have full 3G bandwidth which is way faster than the DSL round here.

The answer is that it works at 3G speeds even on our ground floor terrace so no need for taking it upstairs. :d2:

I have the Etisalat high speed phone moden, so far I have only not being able to conect once, it told me that the remote computer was not avalable. As for conection and speed I am in the middle of my flat and have no problen with conection or speed, I also use Skype to phone the UK and usually have better voice sound than WIFI that I have used before. happy web walking
