2 DAYS IN LUXOR

Im spending 2 days in Luxor, any ideas of what excursions to take, and whats best places to vist in the valley of the kings.This is my first vist to Egypt and would like to find out what other people think of their trips.

Wow! How long is a piece of string? The best place to visit, well there is so much to see that everyone will tell you differently. As you only have two days it will fly so you need to make the most of it, here is my itinery:

1. As you will probably be staying in a hotel in Luxor, on day one visit the Karnack temple as early as possible then after lunch use the late afternoon to visit the Mummification museum and later in the evening visit the Luxor Temple at night, it is most atmospheric and they are only a short distance from each other

2. The following day have a taxi organised to take you from your hotel on a drive across the Nile bridge to the West Bank to visit the Valley of the Kings, whilst there visit the tomb of Tutankhamen (extra charge payable) and if they are open I would say the tomb of Merneptah, Tuthmosis III & any other that takes your fancy (you get three tombs for your entrance fee). On your way there you will pass the Colossus of Memnon statues, tell your driver to stop for a look and to take photographs (these are free to visit). After you leave the V.O.K. tell your driver to take you to the Ramesseum (it is quite close to the VOK) then if you can stand the pace go and visit the temple at Medinet Habu, there is a nice little cafe there for a cool drink. You need to tell your driver your itinery so that he can drop you off at the office to buy tickets (it is close to the statues) You have to purchase your Ramesseum & Medinet Habu tickets at the ticket office, but your VOK tickets are purchased at the valley itself. This should take up all of your morning until lunchtime if you start early and cost about £20 for a taxi. (He will stay with you)

After lunch, early evening or late afternoon, visit the Luxor Museum, a beautiful cool and tranquil place full of the most wonderful statues.

Then if you want you can fit in a Sound & Light show at Karnak to round it all off.

After that you will be too knackered for anything else

Short time but also I recommended a 1 hr horse & carriage ride around Luxor so you can see the real Luxor, see its local life and get your bearings you will view scenes never seen anywhere else for sure, also dependant what night your there recommend Fellahs Tent a fabulous night out at the Movenpick which a superb dinner, show, snake show, belly beleidi and folk dancers you get a ride on the Nile and even a galabaya to keep too !
