As I didn't have a phone line in my flat and desperate to get back onto the internet I went for the Vodafone USB connection. It cost me 550le to buy which you get back throughout the year. The monthly fee is 120le minus 46.25le (money back) making the monthly bill 73.75le. I went into Vodafone to pay my first bill the other day and they told me it was 5le! how come? don't think he knew himself the reason...he said next month if you don't go over your allotted usage it will be 73.75le....fair enough. Having used it for one month browsing the internet, checking emails, chatting on skype & messenger (without video) I found I'd used just over 1GB, so for me I think this is ideal. It can be a bit slow loading websites but once they're loaded I don't have any complaints and connection has never dropped once since I've had it.

We just had a thread on the same topic on L4U and someone suggested Etisalat as being the best as they charge a lot less for usage above your Gb cap.
We have been thinking about going this route ourselves this time because our Luxor DSL is so slow later in the day and we have problems communicating with the ISP. I see they do a 3.5G wireless router as well so we could share the one connection.

I also heard Etselat is having better rates. and faster connection.
thank god i do not need it as i have ADSL at home and office.

There quite a few people that I know, have Etisalat and they are very happy with it. One of them is a diver and he uploads pictures all the time and he said it's brilliant. I didn't realise that Vodophone did it also.

I have the etisalat modem and have had it for 4 months now it is fast enough for me, I do email alot and upload pictures, also I talk on messenger through the webcam.

I paid £180 for the year and there is no hidden costs no extra megs absolutly not more to pay.

We went into the Etisalat Shop in Luxor to be told they no longer do internet, go next door to Vodafone We did & it works OKish. Great speeds & really flies along if we go up to the roof or even the balcony but not so good indoors as we are on the ground floor. Certainly better than nothing & we managed to use it to fax LINK DSL in Cairo complaining about the Luxor Agent and now we have our DSL back

We had ours at home through Delta Net who have just informed us that he is starting a new company. Our old mast and cables will no longer be useable but we can sign up with the new company for 150 LE per month.

Now I wouldn't mind but we paid 1,100 to get connected, 100 per month and the internet was more down than up (if you know what I mean).

Anyone any suggestions for here in Hurghada - we don't have a telephone line. I really do want to be connected to keep in touch with my girls.

What kind of internet is is - satellite?

Is there no way you can apply for a phone line?

Is DeltaNet a National Company? If so can you go straight to the HO in case his is just a break away Co ?

No it is not possible to get a phone line - according to Telephone exchange there are none available for Magawish.

Semsema was this some sort of wireless link you had then? you talked about a mast and cables?

Surely the best option for you home would be the mobile broadband through Vodafone, Mobinil or Etisalt then. Ours works out at LE73 a month with a 2Gb limit on Vodafone but I think the others give you more download limit for more moneey. The only up front cost is the modem but you get the cost of that back as a deduction on the monthly rental as been explained earlier.

We are back on our DSL via the phone line now but are keeping the Vodafone modem for emergencies or quick downloads as it much faster than the DSL if we go up to the roof

BB's suggestion would probably be the best for you Semsema.

The lack of phone lines doesn't surprise me one bit - we had to wait ages for a free line and we live in Alex!

I really don't mind buying a modem, I am desperate to keep in touch with my daughters and miss 'seeing' the grandchildren.

Is it possible to get the Vodafone or Etisalat on a short contract?

I am waiting to get internet in my office and I would only need it for one month.

I think you can but it costs LE555 for the modem and LE 120/month.
If you take a 12 month contract then you get the price of the modem back over the year.
