An explanation for HL

Post by Netyoda »

HL questioned the incongruity of the work Shukran in arabic, in that it ends with an Alif rather than a Noon.

The reason for this is that if it were written with all the correct vowel marks, it would have TWO accents above it, which changes "a" to "an"

Just that nobody ever writes it with the extra vowel marks

I have trouble with this - confused.- :?:?
As shukran and Sabahan (in the morning) where the adverbial phrases like
"With ""BY" " in the"
so shukran --= with thanks
sabahan = in the morning all end with the alif -im sure there are exceptions -
Its also after certain questions too- but im trying to get my head around that one also.
I have to keep going back over certain areas -
Very interesting tho i enjoy learning Arabic but it will take some time .

it is called tanween listen it is state of grammer

sabahan mean at morning and this is called adverb of time ,also have abverb of place and this always have Alif pronounced noon because it is always Mansoob. means they have an accent like the french above the last letter !! understanding me are you .

All very technical

Wow I was really impressed then Lee wondering how you had worked out the answer to that after only just starting to learn Arabic! Although I can speak Arabic pretty well my grammar is rubbish and my writing is even worse! But if I had tried to write chukran I would have wrongly ended it with 'noon' as well! But that explanation did ring a few very distant bells. Theer are all sorts of rules stored somewhere in my head but I can't get them back out!!!
