Can anyone tell me (to the nearest say 20) exactly how many different fish there are in the Red Sea ? I suppose that I should qualify the question by saying that if there are say 10 types of different Ray fish, them count that as ten, even though Ray fish would technically be be a species on their own (I think).

There are over 1000 species of fish in the Red Sea, of which about 25% are endemic to the area.
With new species always being discovered & the migration through the Red Sea of many larger species, an exact number is probably impossible to give.
Just be satisfied that's it a lot

Hi. there are over 1000 species of fish and about 230 species of hard coral in the red sea. at least 15% of the fishes and a similar proportion of other marine species are endemic, found nowhere else in the world.
