Is it the law now that crash-helmets MUST be worn driving motor-bikes ? Are the locals all wearing them now ? I am hoping Netyoda can answer this ? ? Thankyou - - Jay

well look it this way with the roads and how some of them drive in egypt i wear an helmet i seen what it can do with out one in a crash or a accident better to be safe than sorry .
And anyway most of them dont wear it cause they want the older ladies to look at them and they give the wink as they go by
Hahah yeah right wish they hit the curb

Since Netyoda hasn't, I will do my best. Having bombed around with him on the back of his bike for a couple of weeks...not once did either of us wear a helmet, and I don't think I saw anyone else wear one either..including the police. It certainly wasn't being enforced if it is the law...and there were loads of police around because of reinforcing Ramadam rules. Just do me a favour Jayway and don't tell my mother...she'd kill me!

I think Cocoa is right about the looking at women thing for blokes...and of course i wasn't sat on the back looking at the eye-candy at all ;). The driving is a little erm....creative/assertive/aggressive/mental ...but i've seen more accidents in two weeks in the UK than i did in two weeks in Egypt. Cocoa is right tho a helmet is always going to be safer if there is a crash...but i have fairly long thick red hair...and the back of Lee's bike was quite handy for drying it

Thankyou Cozdragon and Cocoa. I will take my old helmet. It should fit quite nicely on top of my burkha. - - I see a lot of accidents here too, specially on our "death road" - the 125. Tourists in town are the worst, trying to knock me off as they forget to leave space. keeps me alert -:):D:D

Jayway,

You are welcome...enjoy....actually there are so many bikes out there it felt a hell of a lot safer...apart from the gazillion COBBLED speed bumps in long straight roads. But then I guess bikes are much easier to see when there are three or four people on them, the odd sheep, planks of wood, or 5 metre lengths of metal balanced on shoulders etc... ;)

God i miss being in Hurghada :( Cx

I will only be taking hand-baggage - wonder what Easyjet will think about me wearing my helmet ? ? As its just a little bit too big to fit into that silly bag measuring frame they have by the check-in ! ! I travel as a FAT person, like 4 pair trousers,5 t-shirts.to coats, scarves - overnight at Gatwick is COLD ! ( thats my excuse anyway- nothing to do with the extortinate bagge fee ;) )

Thats a good plan in theory Jayway but dont you have to keep buying 4 different sized trousers so that pair 2 fits ove pair 1 and so on .... :?:
