Probably the assasination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, this action directly led to two world wars with tens of millions of people dying. It led to Hitler and the Jewish persecution, which led to the formation of Israel and the Middle East problems of today. It also led to the divisions in Yugoslavia and the resulting Bosnia, Serbia war, and the nuclear arms race was as a result of the opposing positions taken in Europe against the Russian federation.
