I had it done in the 90's and it worked really well however after 6 years my sight started to deteriorate and I now wear glasses again. I do know plenty of others who have had it done and their sight is fine at present. The thing is there are no long term results so no one can give an accurate answer as to how long it will last. Obviously as time passes there will be long term results available. There are two kinds of laser surgery one is where the laser shaves layers off the cornea(I had this one done) and it can be quite painful at the time. The second, the laser is used inside the eye and it seems to be far less painful. There are also side effects such as intolerance to bright lights and halos around lights at night. I had both and still have the effects of them 14 years on but I'm now used to them.
I don't regret having my eyes lasered as it gave me 6 years without glasses and I detest wearing glasses. I also can't wear contacts as I have dry eye syndrome and don't produce enough tears.
Check out all the options and think hard before you decide if you're going to get them done.

I was told that you cant have it done if your eyesight is bad due to age, dont know if it's right or wrong though. I would love to have it done but yet again I am too frightened to let them come near me............maybe I will wait until it's that bad I cant see them coming !!

you don't actually see anything other than a bright light and it's done under local anaesthetic I just had drops, no injections and didn't feel a thing until the anaesthetic wore off.

I had it done 2 years ago in the UK. My eyesight was really bad before and had to have it done twice in one of my eyes.
I have to say that it was the strangest experience of my life; they put anesthetic drops in your eyes but you can still see everything that is going on and when they cut the flap everything goes black!!
The procedure only takes a few minutes and after about 10 mins I was able to see enough to walk out on my own.

When I hit the "Cut the flap" bit ... that's the moment I lost all interest in having it done!!

It was really strange but completely painless.
I fell asleep when I got home and when I woke it was quite painfull but by the next day my eyesight was nearly perfect.
My only regret was not getting it done years ago. Its great now not having to hold the shampoo bottle 2 inches from the end of my nose to check if it is shampoo or conditioner!!!
