normally you can hear the gas man Jujey

listen out the window for a guy banging a spanner on gas bottles

they come around everyday sometimes twice a day or go to a kebab shop and ask where the gas filling station is or maybe he will let you have a spare.
Normally they don't deliver by phone. You just listen for the banging sound and call him over and he will change it and reconnect the refill.

eeeek!
It always happens at really inconvenient times to me. The most memorable was Christmas day of three years ago ..... My huge roast dinner had only been in the oven for 30 mins when the gas popped and died! Possibly the most awful one was when we were catering for a party of 30 and it clapped out before we were half done.

We took to writing the date down on the calendar that we changed it, and then if anything big is coming up and we need it we check the calendar and decide whether just to get a new one or risk it.

My gas always goes out on a Thursday evening ... or on a public holiday, just to make doubly sure that I'll be spitting mad about it.

Don't you have a doorman, or a flunky for the street or anything? If we don't hear the clanging noise we set the doorman out to track one down for us.

hahhahahah i feel like i am in the stone ages here!! makes me laugh though!!
i am going to go tell my doorman to listen out for the gas guy right now. I can last until tomorrow, if worse comes to worse, i will just go get an electric plate, and cook on that until i can find some gas. how much does it cost to refil a tank anyways????? oh how i miss canada :)
hehhehhe

should be about 10le

We bought two bottles and always have a spare in the cupboard.
Might be worth investing in a spare ;)

Gas bottles are 5le but 10le if your bowab carries up the stairs for you,a tip if your bottle is really low turn it upside down and you will get the last bit out of it,but you can guarantee if you run out all the gas boys seem to disappear from the streets so best buy another bottle to have as a spare. ;)

Hooray!!

I still only have one bottle - should really buy a spare, but having one dirty disgusty bottle hanging round the flat is more than I can bear, never mind two!

Like HP says: The standard price for a bottle is 5 LE, money is added on top of that depending on if you have a lift or stairs, and if you connect it or the gas bottle man does .... and the price also goes up in times of gas shortages when it can hit 20 LE a bottle.
Normally we pay 7 LE to bring the bottle up to the 5th floor in the lift, but not to connect it - and he gives us replacement washers for free.

Methinks we are being diddled!!! :x

Ours are 10le without carrying or connection!

How can there be gas shortages Goddess ?
Egypt is rich in natural gas. Is propane and butane not from natural gas then? :?

Natural gas is 80-90% methane with only a small percentage of propane.

The gas shortages occur around December/January when demand is highest but the government does not increase production leading to shortages in supply.

Yopu may not be being diddled Ebi - It also depends on the area you live in, and sometimes how far they've had to transport the cylinders. I can name a few places in Alex where they sell for 10 LE.

You could be right Goddess.

We live so far from the refuelling station.

The guys have to bring is a fair distance to us so I think they add on that cost.
I suppose if we went to collect it then it would be 5 le :)

SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY

Fabulous piece of investigative reporting here on Egypt's gas reserves.

My bawab always kept a spare full bottle.... so he'd just switch it over!!

He just charged 5 le.... but I always gave him a bit extra for doing it for me.

I've seen many posts on forums where people have awful bawabs.... I'm convinced mine was the best ever!!!
