About 10 years ago - when I first moved here and had 2 channels on my tv, I would watch anything at all!

But I did love the Bollywood movies - but it was slightly surreal trying to read the arabic translation down at the bottom and not having the English being spoken to check my translations. And then when they all burst into song - they completely missed off the translations so those bits were all a big mystery.

I even had a favourite actor but I'll be beggared if I can remember his name - remember his face though, but that doesn't help much!

Some of the plotlines were fantastic. I loved how people could jump mountains in a single leap. And I'm not being sarcastic! I really did love them!

Your whole post made me giggle so much, its true how one sec theres this big serious scene and then a song just blasts into existence for no rhyme ( ) nor reason!

I just love the glamour, some of the actresses are stunning and the clothes, oh my days, the colour combos and the detail that goes on to these vast amounts of materials, its truly amazing.

I need to know who this favourite of yours is G, try and describe him and I'll get a pic up.

My current fave bloke is http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgur ... m%3D1&um=1

his acting is so-so but that face, delish!

Lordy!
I'll ask Mr G- bet he can remember what my fave film was called! (sure it had something to do with a knife or a blade or something and was two words both the same - will spend all day tomorrow watching Bollywood movies on the computer now)

I just love how it's all so coordinated - and the colours. It's just like a big feast for the eyes.

Hows the film fest going Goddess??

I’m intrigued as to what your favourite film was now!

Film fest is postponed til tomorrow - I forgot I had to go out and thrash a friend at scrabble all day today.

When I peppered Mr G with questions about what the film was, he just said "Oh God! Do we have to watch it AGAIN??" And he reminded me we saw the same film three times because I liked it so much

So if anyone wants me tomorrow ... I'll be otherwise engaged!

You and me are both intrigued NG!

Spent a big lump of yesterday playing the spot the film game, thanks to Wiki and Google managed to ID my fave actor:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shahrukh_Khan

But was gutted to discover that he wasn't in the film that I remember so fondly!
(Yep - went through all the films listed by Wiki that he starred in!)

So the quest for the film continues!

Thought you were playing Scrabble Goddess ! Did you win?

Scrabble is a bit of a bone of contention at the mo! We've been having weekly battles for the last 6 months or so..... and I haven't won a single game! Wouldn't mind, but I get some killer words - but can never find anywhere to put them, and if I do find somewhere to put it it's in one of those blasted places where you get nowt extra for it!

I won my first game this week ..... but there were only two of us playing because it's summer so it wasn't much of a victory.

Me and Mr G used to play scrabble ..... but it's even worse when you get whupped by a non native English speaker! So I refuse to play against him anymore.

LOL, I used to play with my hubby and he used to win, it really annoyed me because he was only putting two and three letter words but consequently leaving me with nowhere to go with my extra long words :x

Ah Goddess, everyone likes Shah Rukh Khan, I did think it may have been him but you say hes not in the film you love? Hmmm, the quest does continue!

Heres a pic of SRK as he is now known, he was detained in an American airport last week for having the surname 'Khan'

I am mainly into old ones like Naseebe and Noorie ,the songs just blow me away like O;saati re and Uske Bhed Nirale when me here this song i just cry so much .
Noorie (1979) is a very cute, romantic film produced by Yash Chopra. Upon its release in 1979, the film became a box office hit in India (i have an obssession watching movies that were hits in India, of course i watch non hit films as well, but i like seeing what Indian cinema goers paid to watch)

Noorie tells the story of a girl called 'Noorie' ( a very cute Poonam Dhillon) who lives in the valleys with her Dad, and her dog Khairoo, she has a boyfriend Yusuf (Farooq Shaikh) and they're both deeply in Love with one another
Yusuf is eager to marry her, but Noorie tells him to go and ask her father for her hand in marriage
Yusuf takes Noorie's advice and makes his desires known to her father 'Ghulam Nabi' (Iftekhar) The Ghulam Nabi agrees and Noorie and Yusuf's wedding preparations begin
While preparation's are being made for Noorie and Yusuf's wedding , another villager Bashir Khan (Bharat Kapoor) takes a strong liking to Noorie and decides he wants her for himself, he approaches Noorie's father and tells him his intentiontions, but Noories' father disagrees
A very angry Bashir Khan then arranges the murder of Gulam Nabi, who gets killed by Bashir Khan's men. Following his death, Noorie and Yusuf decide to suspend their marriage, a few months later the marriage preparations are back on, however a few days before the marriage Bashir Khan, who happens to be Yusuf's boss sends him on an errand out of town. While Yusuf is out of town Bashir Khan goes over to Noorie's house and then rapes her.
Noorie's dog tries to help but he's been chained down
What will happen to Noorie, will she be able to leave with herself after the rape? What will be the Villager's reaction to Noorie? Will Yusuf still be willing to marry her? Will Bashir Khan's evil deeds ever be found out? For all these answers watch Noorie.

Closing in at about 1hr 54mins Noorie is one of the shortest hindi films i've ever seen. Its hard for me to criticise Noorie, as it's a simple, sweet & straight to the point story, although it does get sad and a bit dramatic at times, these i believe only adds to the charm of the movie. If you like lighthearted, simple entertainment that's easy to follow, then definitely check out Noorie.

The songs of 'Noorie' scored by Khayyam (who also scored bollywood classics such as Kabhie Kabhie,Umrao Jaan) are memorable classics that linger in your head upon listening, from the delightful Qawalli 'Aashiqi ho to aisa ho' (the only video of this song i could find on youtube were of some Russian bollywood dancers miming & dancing to it at some function, make sure you watch it), the sweet 'Chori Chori koi aaye' and my personal favourite the haunting 'Aaja Re' (see below). The simple storyline, the character's, plus wonderful cinematography, the beautiful locales and classic music is what i believe made Noorie a box office hit in India.
Aaja re, aaja re o mere dilbar aaja
Dil ki pyaas bujha jaa re
O, aaja re
:( she dies its so sad so sad and after 23 years i still love it more .
